The exhibition ENCHANTING ENCOUNTERS by Alexandra Uccusic shows encounters of humans and animals – on multiple levels. Such “encounters” take place in the medium of painting and refer to topics of biodiversity and peace. ENCHANTING ENCOUNTERS invites the viewers to encounter the creatures on the pictures and at the same time reflects the process of “encountering art”. The exhibition strives to inspire a positive state of mind, as being “enchanted” can help against widespread fear and paralysis in the face of multiple crises and threats.
The works of art of Alexandra Uccusic bring together – often with an element of irony and the wink of an eye – figuration and abstraction, which in quasi-ornamental structures shape the appearance of animal and human figures. The artist’s images of “dames” display self-conscious and slightly strange female figures with a tinge of different epochs and cultures. In her pictures of animals the artist opens up a wide range of species – namely in times of dwindling biodiversity. Alexandra Uccusic in her work combines organic forms inspired by nature with aspects of a formal, at times geometric rigor. Intensive colors and monochrome works with indian ink complement each other in the oeuvre of the artist.
